Helping children build the communication skills they need for a confident start to Prep
Starting primary school is an exciting milestone, and communication skills are a key part of being ready for the journey ahead. They help children understand instructions, participate in classroom activities, build friendships and make a positive start to school.
Our Kinder Screening Program helps kindergartens, early learning centres and parents support children who might benefit from speech therapy before their Prep year begins.
Why communication matters for school readiness
Children use communication every day at school. Our goal is to help them build the skills to:
- Speak clearly so others can understand them
- Express their thoughts, ideas and needs
- Answer questions and tell simple stories
- Use vocabulary and sentences to participate in learning
- Grow confidence when interacting with teachers and peers
While every child develops at their own pace, some children benefit from extra support before school begins. Early identification can make a meaningful difference to a child’s independence and learning.
What’s included:
Gather a group of families and our Speech Pathologists will visit your service to provide individual speech and language screenings.
Speech sounds
Looks at how clearly a child produces speech sounds and whether their speech development is progressing as expected.
Expressive language
Explores how a child uses words and sentences to share ideas, answer questions and engage in conversation.
Summary report
Families receive a summary of their child's results and guidance around any further assessment or therapy recommended.

We'll provide everything needed to invite families and add Kinder Screenings to your centre's educational supports program.

How it works
Bookings and registration
Register your kindergarten or early learning centre and we’ll work together to schedule a half or full-day visit during Terms 3 or 4. Parents then register for an appointment time and complete a short intake form.
Screening day
On the day, children meet with the visiting Speech Pathologist accompanied by their parent or carer. Screening appointments take around 30 minutes to complete.
Feedback and next steps
Brief on-the-spot feedback is shared with families and educators, with consent. Further information and recommendations are provided in a summary report following the screening day.
Cost and payments
Kinder screenings start from $240 per child – around half the cost of a private session in the clinic. Fees are payable by families following their screening appointment. We’ll reach out to parents to arrange this.
Rebates may apply for eligible participants.
